My Grandfather Marion DeWitt, Sr. ran DeVan Auto one of the first auto repair shops in Savannah. My Grandmother ran Starland Dairies. My mother's father T.E. Sims was a "Pioneer" with the telephone company. My father, in his l 90's is a retired CPA & active landlord. My mother was a professional volunteer with United Way, Southside Baptist Church, Memorial Day School. The Red Cross presents the Frances DeWitt Volunteer of the Year Award each year in my mom's honor. My sweet mom passed after battling Alzheimer's for 10 years.
I'm a 1986 graduate of Memorial Day School. I attended Georgia Southern, played basketball for South College, tennis for Armstrong before transferring to UGA. In 1990 while at UGA, I was fortunate enough to be on the basketball team that won UGA's first and to date only regular season Southeastern Conference Championship.
I'm blessed with an incredible wife that I met while on a mission trip with Southside Baptist Church and we have a daughter who is a singer and actress and a son who is all boy who loves playing ball.

I've been coaching since 1987. In 2018, while coaching middle school basketball I got to know kids from all over the city and felt that there are some incredible kids that deserved to be recognized.
Elizabeth and I started an award to recognize a male & female from both public and private schools who excel in academics, community service and athletics.
